About this product
The plunger is where most of us started, and it still makes a full, round cup with very little fuss. Ours has a borosilicate glass beaker in a stainless steel frame, and a mesh filter that keeps the grounds in the pot.
Details
- Sizes: 350 ml (one large mug) or 1 L (four mugs)
- Materials: borosilicate glass beaker; stainless steel frame, lid, plunger and mesh filter
- Dimensions: the 350 ml is about 17 cm tall and 8 cm across the glass; the 1 L is about 23 cm tall and 11 cm across
- In the box: the press, with the filter fitted
- Care: take the filter apart now and then and rinse each layer; the glass and the steel parts go in the dishwasher
How we brew it
- Grind coarsely, like rough sea salt. Use 60 g of coffee per litre of water.
- Pour water at 94 °C over the grounds and stir once.
- Put the lid on, with the plunger up, and wait four minutes.
- Press slowly and steadily.
- Pour all of it out at once, so the coffee does not keep brewing in the pot.
For the 350 ml press, that is 20 g of coffee and 330 g of water. Our Sundowner Dark Roast and Koppie House Blend come ground for the plunger if you have no grinder.
Borosilicate glass takes boiling water, but not a sudden chill: let it cool before you rinse it in cold water.
